hello dear friends and comrades,
I’ll be taking some time off from the typical cattails comix content for a little bit. I’m working on some writing on relationships for the second part of my zine series on whole, fluid, and rooted relationships and want to dive fully into that project as I feel it bubbling up, asking to be spoken to.
As I ponder what it means to live in decentralized systems that reflect the natural world, I notice that beings of the earth are never the same thing all the time. In the wintertime some beings go into rest mode, whilst others fruit and give us life.
But in this current iteration of culture, we are asked to define ourselves as one profession, and asked to produce the same things over and over again day after day. That consistency gives us a sense of stability for the time being. Yet without diversity or rest, we fall into patterns of reliance and scarcity, clinging onto what we know and what we can trust.
I see this within the climate movement obsessing over renewable energy, ignoring the incredibly disastrous impact it’d take to battery power our lives. Rather than change our cultural norms, we try and replace what we know with solutions that fit within our current structures.
What though, would it look like to embrace rest and change as a whole? What would it look like to rely on decentralization instead of centralized systems? I am full of curiosity with these possibilities and am eager to write, explore, and talk about these systems.
Hopefully I return with some good findings. In the meantime, I will be posting spreads of my first zine for you all in the coming times.
Totally agree that the overemphasis on renewables is frustrating and seems to distract from a greater underlying issue with consumption. (Alllso super stoked to hear what you find in this next zine wowow)
